Learn About Infield Softball Gloves

Fastpitch infield softball gloves are shorter in length and have a more shallow web pattern, which allows fielders to quickly transfer the ball from glove to hand. Softball infields have 60-foot base paths (90 feet in baseball), so infielders don't turn as many double plays. But, the shorter base paths still require infielders to get the ball out of their gloves quickly.

Softball infield gloves measure 11 to 12 inches and feature i-web and dual post web patterns, creating a more shallow pocket. Fastpitch softball features left-handed "slap hitters", fast runners who intentionally hit grounders or balls to the left to try and get an infield hit. Thus, shortstops need to be able to make fast transfers from glove to hand.

Choose from brands like Rawlings, Mizuno, Wilson, Louisville Slugger, Nokona, Marucci, Easton, Worth, and All-Star. If you're gravitating toward third base, consider looking at utility gloves. Like outfield gloves, third base gloves will generally have larger webs and longer fingers. A utility glove will allow you to easily transition from the outfield to third base.
