Learn About Infield Baseball Gloves

Infield baseball gloves tend to be shorter in length, typically ranging from 11 to 12 inches, so fielders can scoop up grounders and transfer balls quickly to their throwing hand. The infielder's mitt refers to gloves used by second basemen, third basemen, and shortstops, but not first basemen.

These gloves are typically designed with i-web, dual post, single post, modified trapeze, and 2-piece closed web patterns that create a more shallow pocket. Infielders need to have 'soft hands' to field ground balls and throw to first plate in one smooth motion, and their gloves should make that motion easier. It's worth mentioning that pitchers typically use infielders mitts, although some brands sell gloves specifically for pitchers.

From brands like Wilson, Rawlings, Mizuno, Easton, Under Armour, Marucci, Louisville Slugger, Nokona, All-Star, Adidas, Nike and Franklin, you'll be able to find the infield glove that's right for you. When you settle into an infield position, you can consider trying different web styles for that position. For example, third basemen will often use longer gloves with closed webs, whereas shortstops and second basemen use shorter gloves with open webs.
