Youth Softball Gloves FAQ

Is there a difference in youth and adult softball gloves?

Youth softball gloves, scaled down to fit smaller hands, resemble fastpitch softball gloves in construction. They typically range from 10 to 12 inches and include features aiding the developing player, such as a soft feel for minimal break-in and a notch in the glove hinge for easier catching. Many youth models also incorporate an adjustable wrist strap to accommodate varying hand sizes.

How do you know if a youth softball glove is the right size?

The glove should feel snug but not too tight that it hinders movement and flexibility. Also, be sure that the child can comfortably put their fingers in the glove’s finger stalls. For gloves with an adjustable wrist strap, make sure that the strap is placed on the wrist and tight enough to keep the glove secure.

Can a girl use a baseball glove for softball?

Yes, you can technically use a baseball glove to play softball, but it might not be the best option. Baseball and Softball gloves differ in their construction making it challenging to catch and control a softball with a baseball glove. The deeper pocket and larger webbing of a softball glove make it better suited to the demands of the game.

How to break in a youth softball glove?

The best way to break in a glove is to use it! Check out our glove break-in guide for more information.
